birbal-1b is a sovereign foundation model initiative by Monodox, focused on building an Indian-origin language model stack from scratch.

Introduction

birbal-1b is the first public model repository for the Birbal model family. It is intended as the foundation for a 1B-parameter decoder-only language model optimized for multilingual reasoning, conversation, and India-specific use cases.

This repository has been created and reserved as the official home for the Birbal-1B model.
